Dating back to the Commonwealth Tournament, first competed for in 1928.

Luficer Golf Society  has been lucky enough to include some of the greats of the Sport over the years, Honorary Lucifer, James Braid  was 5 times Open Champion and was Walton Heath’s professional for 46 years. He won The Open Championship in 1901, 1905, 1906, 1908 and 1910. In addition, Braid won four British PGA Matchplay Championships 1903, 1905, 1907 and 1911, as well as the 1910 French Open title.

A Famous Overseas Lucifer Pictured On (the Right) is of course  Arthur D’Arcy ‘Bobby’ Locke – Who won the, then named, ‘Lucifer Empire Trophy’ in 1936 also winning The Open Championship, in 1949, 1950, 1952 and 1957. He was the first of many South Africans who subsequently won major championships .

Locke built his success around his outstanding putting ability, coining the phrase “You drive for show, but putt for dough”.Wearing his trademark knickerbockers, white shoes, and stockings, Locke played and enjoyed the game at a slow and deliberate pace.
